Learning about primary and secondary colors in Kindergarten was a blast, especially when we integrated technology. We began our unit by exploring with online paint mixing and our friend Curious George. We identified the 3 primary colors that George provided us, then did a little experimenting to see what other colors we could make simply by mixing those 3 colors together. To our surprise, we made orange, purple and green; our secondary colors.
After exploring with mixing colors, we moved into Microsoft Paint. Our goal...Draw a picture using all 6 colors that we learned about; the 3 primary colors and the 3 secondary colors. We saved our pictures and then thought to ourselves, "We should share these with the world!" That is when the fun really started.
We decided to go on a color hunt around the school and look for all 6 colors which we had been exploring with. We took pictures of the colors that we found and created a video to share our knowledge about primary and secondary colors with others. It was great! At first our video was kind of dull. It only had pictures and no sounds. We came up with a great plan...add our voices! Some classes decided to read sentences and add music, while one class in particular recorded an original song. Once we added sound, we were blow away! We knew we had to share our videos with the world, so we added them to YouTube for all to enjoy.
We truly had a lot of fun learning about primary and secondary colors, and along the way, we learned a lot of valuable technology skills, as well. We navigated websites, used our mouse to draw pictures, took photographs, and recorded audio. We also learned the value of sharing our learning with others.
