This past fall, the first graders of Valley View School joined schools across North America in a symbolic butterfly exchange through Journey North. We learned all about the Monarchs and their lives. Not only did we raise Monarchs in our classrooms, but we acted as citizen scientists as we looked for Monarchs in and around our neighborhoods. We even added each sighting to the interactive map and database from Journey North so we could help track their migration from Canada to Mexico. Then, it was time for us to prepare our symbolic butterflies for their journey south to visit with students in Mexico who were also learning about the amazing life and journey of the Monarch Butterfly.
Today was an exciting day! We finally got to see whether our butterflies made it all the way to Mexico on their long journey. And guess what? They did! Our Monarchs arrived to three different schools at the Monarch Sanctuaries in Mexico.

See the list of Schools here.
By clicking on each school's link, you will get information about that school, as well as be able to view a slideshow of images. We were amazed that even though the school looked different from Valley View, the students were learning some of the same things as us! If you look closely, you may even see Valley View's sign in some of the pictures.
