Chromebook BasicsA chromebook is a device which runs off the Chrome OS operating system. There is no hard drive or software installed. It is basically an internet dependent laptop. Although chromebooks function most effectively when connected to the internet, they do run off line, as well. When there is no network available, you are still able to check calendars, create and edit documents, and work with some apps which have offline capabilities. The Google Drive and other offline apps will automatically sync and save when the chromebook regains internet connection.
Digital SafetyIt is important to think about safety when your child is working and connecting over the internet. Remind them to be aware before they share.

What are Google Apps?Google Apps for Education, also referred to as GAFE, are a suit of programs/tools provided through Google for easy integration into education. Most of the basic GAFE programs are housed in what is called the Google Drive. Drive is a storage system managed by Google which allows its users to store documents in a cloud, share files and collaborate with others. With Google Drive you can access all of your documents with ease from any device. At this time, all third and fourth graders have individual Google accounts and personal Google Drives. Though our kindergarten, first and second grade students do use some of the Google Apps for Education, they access them through generic accounts which are shared among multiple students.
Some apps students may access through their Google Accounts: (not all apps are used with all students at every grade level)
